Permission has been granted for a mosque and other facilities at a site near Farnham, reporter Candice Ritchie had filed for GetSurrey website.

Plans include a sports hall, two wind turbines and a new mosque for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA) building.

Voting by nine to seven on Monday, according to the report, Waverley Borough Council's Joint Planning Committee allowed the redevelopment plans for the AMA’s Islamabad site to go forward.

The redeveloped Islamabad site, about a mile north of Tilford, will have a new mosque at its center and includes structures for administration, classrooms, a sports hall, and guest accommodation.

Two minarets, capable of generating energy, are also planned, it was previously reported.

Islamabad, off Sheephatch Lane has been a significant site of religious and educational instruction for the AMA for decades, it was previously reported by GetSurrey. "Since moving in during 1985, however, the association has made do with a series of hut-like buildings dating back to 1939 and which are deemed no longer fit for purpose."

Cllr David Harmer, who represents Waverley Western Villages on Surrey County Council, was previously reported to have said that "the association members at Islamabad lived very harmoniously alongside other Tilford and Farnham residents."

“They are seriously good people,” he said, adding, "Their slogan is good will to all and hatred to none – they really live that, unlike a lot of people with slogans in religion."
