“Peace of the world will be achieved through the Messiah of the Age,” said Imam Shamshad A. Nasir of the Baitul Jammay Mosque in Glen Ellyn, IL, on March 23, 2015, when the local chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community celebrated the anniversary of their worldwide community's founding 126 years ago in Qadian, India.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a group of Muslims who strive to demonstrate to the world what true Islam is with the guidance of His Holiness Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah, who’s mission was to guide the world through the teaching of the Holy Quran and the practice and teachings of the Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be on him).
On March 23, 1889, Ahmad, the Messiah, accepted the hands of 40 faithful followers in a small city in the Punjab province of India and founded the community which has spread across 206 countries and territories and has a worldwide membership exceeding tens of millions of followers.
During a time of turmoil in the Middle East and racial issues in our own country, the message of peace and tolerance that true Islam teaches is of the utmost importance, said Imam Shamshad.
The Glen Ellyn chapter of this community celebrated locally at the Baitul Jammay Mosque where the event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by members, Kashif Qadri and Ismael Khan, who spoke to shed light on the history of Ahmadiyyat and its divine purpose of coming into being.
The community's National Secretary for Agriculture, Nasir Malik spoke on how to plant gardens for the upcoming season so that members of this community could create a self-sustaining lifestyle in order to benefit themselves and this nation.
Imam Shamshad reminded people of the teachings of Islam. The Imam reiterated the 10 conditions of initiation (bai’it) set by the community's founder, Hazrat Ahmad, so as to renew commitment towards the community as the original 40 members had done so over 100 years ago.
Imam Shamshad said the purpose of the Messiah was to help re-establish a relationship with God by focusing on basic teachings such as observing the 5 daily prayers and following the examples set by the Holy Founder of Islam, the Prophet Muhammd (saw).
“A pious person is the one who takes lead in forgiving mistakes of his brother and an unfortunate person does the opposite and never forgets others mistakes,” the Imam reminded the audience about the teaching of the promised Messiah.
A dinner was served to more then 300 men, women and children of the community who attended the meeting,
