A GROUP of about 40 members of Keighley's Ahmadiyya Muslim Association have taken part in their community's annual convention.

They travelled to Alton, in Hampshire, for the major event on August 21 to 23.

The occasion, now in its 49th year, was held in a temporary tent village at the association's 210-acre farm.

A spokesman for the Keighley wing of the association said more than 35,000 people were present from across the UK and beyond.

He added: "It is an opportunity for members of the community to renew their ties of friendship and brotherhood.

"Members enjoyed addresses on moral reformation as well as a keynote address by his Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the fifth caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, about the scourge of terrorism and the dangers it poses to the world.

"Attendees pledged to continue their work to challenge extremism and work for a better society."

Faheem Rahman, youth leader for Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association Keighley, said: "It was a truly memorable weekend.

"I was not only able to volunteer to help run the event along with thousands of my colleagues from the youth association, but also met hundreds of old and new friends, each with a single-minded passion to spread peace and harmony across the world."
