Diversity and freedom is a unique feature of Australia where people from all faze of life and cultural come together.

Welcome to Australia, a non-for-profit organization, held a "Walk Together" event across the cities of Australia on 31st of October 2015, to raise a positive voice around asylum seeking, refugees and multiculturalism in Australia.

This year for the first time, The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, South Australia, also joined in on the walk at two cites around South Australia, including Willunga and the Adelaide CBD with the blessed teaching by our Holy Prophet (saw) “Love of One’s Country is a part Faith.”

In Willunga, the event commenced at 11am and approximately 250 members of the public participated in the walk. After the walk speakers including the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premiere, Katrine Hildyard, Mayor of Onkaparinga, Lorraine Rosenberg and founders of Circles of Friends spoke to the audience.

Lorraine Rosenberg – Mayor of Onkaparinga said:
“Today we have been here on a walk which is really saying welcome to refugees in our city, the city of Onkaparinga”

Katrine Hildyard, Member for Reynell and Parliamentary Sectary to the Premiere SA said:
“Today is all about our community coming together to say that we value love, we value compassion, we value fairness and together we will speak up, we will walk and we will act together until everyone in our community, in every community in South Australia feels welcome and included. That is what our Australian values are about.”

Peter Laffen – convener of fleurieu Welcome to Australia said:
“It was really a journey of coming together in unity as Australians and welcoming each other first of all and acknowledging each other and recognising that together we need to build a stronger Australia that is able to welcome more people who are in desperate need.”

Fareed Bajwa, President of the Ahmadiyya Adelaide South Community, was also given the opportunity to talk about the persecution of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in countries like Pakistan and how many members have had to migrate to Australia as refugees.

"Faced with increasing instances of fear and prejudice, it’s more important than ever for values of compassion and welcome to reign," expressed Fareed Bajwa.

"For the sake of our futures, it’s time to Walk Together."
