A two-member delegation comprising National Faith Outreach Director of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at – Sri Lanka (AMJSL), Mr. A. Abdul Aziz, and the Chief Missionary, AMJSL, Moulavi A.B. Musthaq Ahmad, met the Mayor of Gampaha His Worship Aranga Senanayake at his office in Gampaha Municipal Council, on Wednesday, 28 October, 2015.
Although the Mayor was busy in a meeting with general public, he gave priority to the community delegation and meet them first.
Mayer accepted a copy of the Holy Quran from the delegation with due respect.
The Mayor was familiar of the Jama’at as he was the Chief Guest at a book fair held in the same town (Gampaha) in 2013, in which Jama’at had set up a book stall displaying the Holy Qur’an Translations.
The Jama’at delegation also met the Secretary to the Deputy Mayor (as the Deputy Mayor himself was not available) Ms. Rupa Chakunthala and presented the copy of the Holy Qur’an Sinhala Translation.
While discussing with her, the delegation came to know about her social works for the upbringing of the children and the well-being of the women in society. She showed much interest on this matter as she is the key-member of several women’s welfare societies in the city. She was explained about what Islam teaches on this issue. She also requested a copy of the Sinhala Translation of the Holy Qur’n and one was given to her.
A copy of the Holy Qur’an Sinhala Translation was also presented to Commissioner of the Gmpaha Municipal Council.
The Copies of Holy Qur’an Sinhala Translation were also given to the Principals of three major schools in the city. They accepted this holy book with utmost respect.
Peace Messages in English as well as Sinhala also presented along with the Holy Qur’an.
The word ‘Gampaha’ means ‘five towns’ and the city has thick population of Buddhists. The city is considered as the forefront in the field of Education. As mentioned, the Jama’at had set up its first book-stall ‘Holy Qur’an Exhibition’ in 2013 at this city and the name of the Jama’at was made well popular throughout the city area at the time of exhibition.
