Canada: Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at in Moose Jaw condemns Paris attacks

"The problem is the people who do these heinous acts, they're using the religion of Islam. This is unfortunate. It's a completely barbaric act of violence that they have committed."

Munib Waqas Ahmad with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at Moose Jaw was saddened to hear of the attacks in Paris this weekend.

"This is very tragic event and it's shocking and I cannot believe that once again the people who did this used the religion of Islam to attack and kill innocent people," he said. "This is completely unthinkable and unacceptable."

In the attacks, 129 people were killed and many more were critically injured.

Ahmad's worry is that people will think that because of these terrorist attacks, the Islam religion is a violent one. This, he said, is untrue.

"As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at, we categorically reject and condemn this act of violence," said Ahmad. "It has no business in Islam. The Holy Quran and the teaching of the prophet do not promote violence. They promote peaceful teachings," said Ahmad.

"The problem is the people who do these heinous acts, they're using the religion of Islam. This is unfortunate. It's a completely barbaric act of violence that they have committed."

He hasn't seen any backlash from the attacks, but he is anticipating some in the future.

"We know these people are using the name of the religion of Islam to commit these acts. When people see all that's going on in the media, they automatically form a negative opinion of all the Muslims," said Ahmad.

"We're afraid that we as members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at community will also be looked at as someone who belongs to a violent religion or a religion that promotes hatred. This is not the case, which is why whenever something like this happens, we're in the forefront to condemn it."

He said the people who committed those acts are terrorists.

"Terrorists have no religion," said Ahmad. "Islam is a peaceful religion. Actually the very meaning of the word 'Islam' is 'peace and submission.' It's unfortunate and it's very sad that those people have manipulated the religion of Islam to gain political power or use fear as their motive to gain their political agenda."

He encouraged anyone to contact the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at for more information.

"We will soon be doing more symposiums in Moose Jaw and other cities across Canada promoting peace and letting the people know that we are at the forefront of condemning any form of terrorism," said Ahmad.

He added that hopefully soon, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at Moose Jaw would hold a Stop the CrISIS symposium in the city. He will also be doing a lecture at the Moose Jaw Public Library

"That lecture is speiifically bout ISIS and how terrorism started and why they are using the religion of Islam, basically," said Ahmad. "So going back into historical facts as to what went wrong. I invite people to come and listen and they can judge for themselves."
