Jamaica's Ahmadiyya Muslims condemn Paris attacks

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Jamaica categorically condemns the multiple terrorist attacks which occurred in Paris, France last night.

“We are very saddened to learn about the barbaric attacks in Paris,” said Maulana Umair Khan, President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Jamaica.

Over the last 24 hours the eyes of the world have been fixated on the French capital after suicide bombers aligned to the terrorists group Islamic State (IS) detonated bombs in coordinated fashion, killing over 120 persons while injuring hundreds more.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Jamaica, with its headquarters here in Old Harbour, said it mourns the loss of lives with the rest of the world.

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at mourns the loss of life and expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims. The community is saddened to learn that more than 100 people have been killed, with many more in critical condition,” the organization said in a statement.

Maulana Khan added: “The victims of these horrific attacks, their families and the French people are in our sincere thoughts and prayers.”

Meantime the Jamaica government and opposition have both issued statements condemning the attacks regarded by analysts as the worst in Europe since the 2004 Madrid train bombings.

“Jamaica joins all civilised, peace-loving people around the world in condemning the heartless and barbaric terrorist attacks perpetrated on the night of 13th November 2015 against the nation and people of France,” Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller said. “We reiterate our utter condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and renew our commitment to fighting this scourge in cooperation with the international community and in defence of the universal values of life, liberty and peace for which Jamaica stands as a nation.”

Edmund Bartlett, opposition spokesperson on Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, said: “An unmistakable signal must be sent to the enemies of freedom and humanity, that their campaign of terror will not break our spirit or dampen our resilience as proponents of world peace. No effort should be spared by the international community in deepening counter-terrorism collaboration and strengthening our resolve as peoples of the free world to protect our common values and reject extremism.”
