The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK hosted its 5th annual Ahmadiyya Muslim Careers Fair at Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden this past Saturday, November 14th.

A total of 54 exhibitors with their 100 exhibition representatives participated in the fair and about 1,155 members from the local community including 400 women attended the day long event.

The doors were opened at 11:00 am when exhibitors started their set up and visitors began to arrive.

As part of the opening formalities at midday, Ahmadiyya National Director of External Affairs, Mr Fareed Ahmad; Member of Parliament for Mitcham and Morden, Siobhan McDonough; and Imam Mansoor Clarke addressed the attendees.

The fair continued throughout the day and special breakout programmes were organized with workshops offering talks on "Factors of successful applications, Personal Statements, Reference Writing, UCAS (The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) application systems and cycles" by Jenny Clarkewill; "How can candidates stand out in a job hunt – A Headhunter’s Perspective" by Nausherwan Akram; and "Myths about Citizenship – How to get British Citzenship and completing a test and Live in the UK test".

Parents had the opportunity to seek advice and they were introduced to other stalls such as Parents Guidance for Primary School and Noor Tuition Centre.

A special program was held for women, entitled ‘Woman in Societal Enterprise (WISE): Inspiring to Empower’ by Aneeqa Malik. It was a 30 minute session and was held twice in the women area of the Tahir hall.

There were two key note speakers organized by Sanat-o-Tijarat departmeny between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Atul Pathak OBE and Dr Keith Richard Harris spoke about their experiences in the world of business.

According to the organizers, the distinguishing factor noted at this year's fair was that many more employers came to offers jobs across professions, an indication there is a labor shortage in the UK workforce.

Among the external exhibitors were Barclays Bank, Civil Service, Metro Bank, IKEA, UCAS, London School of Economics, City University, Roehampton University, Notting Hill Housing Trust, Army, Fire Brigade and London Ambulance.

Among the internal exhibitors were: Taleem UK, Sanato Tijarat UK & Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya UK, Jamia Ahmadiyya UK, Ahmadiyya Muslim Student Association, Ahmadiyya Muslim Research Association, Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Student Association, Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers, MTA International, Noor Tuition Centre and for the first time a stall from the UK Jamaat’s newly established radio station ‘Voice of Islam’.

It was notice this year that some of the external exhibitors had Ahmadi Muslim representatives, which indicates many members of the community are now a positive factor in moving the UK workforce in the right direction.

Complementary lunch was served to everyone attending the fair.

Visitors appreciated the community's facilitation of the event and expressed the staff was  friendly and helpful.

"It’s a great opportunity for us to give awareness of who we are and what we do," said one exhibitor, Notting Hill Housing Trust. "Hopefully people will be interested in working with us by applying for future vacancies."

Kingston Adult Education found the event 'very welcoming. good facilities, well organized and well attended.'

Another exhibitor, UCAS appreciated the hospitality, saying "Was very kind to provide food and drink all day.”

Similarly, exhibitor, DIVERSITY GROUP, said “Organisers were very friendly and helpful, whole atmosphere of the event has been great.”
