“We feel like a few, a handful of Muslims are being represented in the media as anything bad happens it’s a Muslim. We feel anytime there’s an attack like that we have to come up and say no this is not Islam, no this is not us.”

An outburst at Lambeau Filed during Sunday’s moment of silence for the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks illustrates how once again Muslims are cast in a negative light.
For members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Oshkosh, Friday’s terror attacks in Paris are the equivalent of one step forward, two steps back for their religion.
“We feel like a few, a handful of Muslims are being represented in the media as anything bad happens it’s a Muslim. We feel anytime there’s an attack like that we have to come up and say no this is not Islam, no this is not us,” says Raazia Riffat of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
But the community is glad Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has come to their defens.
The principals of Islam are peace and love. Local Muslims say those who committed the latest terror attacks don’t share those beliefs.
According to Ahmad, “These are not radical Muslims, these are just Muslims that have lost their way. Or not even actually, you can’t even call them Muslims because the word Islam means peace. A Muslim is who follows peace so if you’re not following that you’re just claiming the religion for the sake of claiming it.”
Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community aren’t fearful of any retaliation locally because of what happened overseas, “Overall I think we’re still in a very safe place and people are not out there to harm you,” adds Ahmad.
But they want to use this opportunity to open their doors to outsiders and explain who they are and what they stand for.
Raazia Riffat says, “I hope what comes out of it is an opportunity of a dialogue that comes in and we can explain to people that the majority of Muslims are peace loving. Islam is a peaceful religion.”
