MERIDEN — Police and FBI agents are investigating reports of multiple gunshots fired at a Connecticut mosque hours after the terrorist attacks in Paris.
Mohammed Qureshi, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Connecticut, tells The Record-Journal that leaders of the Baitul Aman mosque in Meriden found multiple bullet holes in the building Sunday night.
Qureshi says the mosque was empty at the time and no one was injured.
Several neighbors reported hearing shots in the area early Saturday morning.
Police say shots were fired into the mosque, penetrating three interior walls and areas where members gather for prayer.

Detectives initially handled the investigation, which has since been turned over to the FBI, Lt. Sal Nesci said.
A spokesman for the FBI office in New Haven couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Nesci said he doesn’t recall any similar incidents occurring at the mosque.
“I don’t have enough information to say it’s a hate crime,” Qureshi said. “I can’t speculate without all the evidence.”
The Ahmadiyya community is a branch of Islam that emphasizes peace, he said. The mosque in Meriden opened in 2007, and serves the entire state, with about 250 members.
“We are very peace loving,” Qureshi said. “We strongly denounce all acts of terrorism. Terrorists have hijacked our religion.”

I have lived in United States of an on since 1965 and continuously since 1974 and consider this my home, my country. I have raised my family here and all my grandkids were born here.
ReplyDeleteI have found my fellow citizens as most generous and welcoming people but often very ignorant about the world outside America. Often they do not distinguish between their friends and foes. They don't know that only .oo3 percent of 1.6 million Muslims are terrorists and they too are misguided and serving some political purpose. True Islam has nothing to do with terrorism. The word Islam means Peace and Submission. In regards to the mosque which was fired upon on Saturday, it belonged to Ahmadiyya Muslim Community who's slogan is Love for all, hatred for none. In my 78 years of life I have never known ever any Ahmadi involved in act of violence anywhere in the World in its entire history. Yet someone targeted our place of worship with bullets. Who is the terrorist here???
