SASKATOON – Premier Brad Wall gathered with members of Saskatoon’s Ahmadiyya Muslim community Monday in a meeting that covered several topics. The premier requested the gathering during the nationwide discussion regarding Canada’s role in the Syrian refugee crisis.
The talks covered plans to help refugees settle in Saskatoon, along with the charitable efforts of the Ahmadiyya Muslims across Canada.
The premier stressed that Muslims “have contributed in every conceivable way” in Saskatchewan.
In regards to Islamic extremism, Wall said no person should have to defend their faith based on the unfortunate acts of a few people.
“What has been depicted in the name of Islam, we feel our religion has been hijacked,” said Noman Hassan, spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at in Saskatoon.
The group is happy to educate the public about the real teachings of Islam and address any misconceptions, Hassan said.
