Perspective: Killing doesn't represent faithful Muslims | Fatima Minhas
Those who take up arms against unarmed, innocent civilians and kill them mercilessly are barbarians. They represent the worst of humanity.

The San Bernardino tragedy is bewildering on many fronts. I fail to understand how a new mother abandoned her six-month old baby to go on a killing spree. Even animals have better nurturing instincts, and despite their viciousness, show extreme care for their newborns.
As a Muslim American of Pakistani descent, I am deeply hurt that people with a similar background as mine acted out hate against their coworkers, who had recently even thrown a baby shower for them.
This is not my Islam- one that I am being taught in my mosque, and by my parents and grandparents. Islam means peace in the literal sense. It is a complete way of life, one that requires the best of human values- compassion, humility, sincerity, and integrity - just like all other faiths.
Those who take up arms against unarmed, innocent civilians and kill them mercilessly are barbarians. They represent the worst of humanity. I urge my fellow Americans to kindly refrain from sweeping generalizations against 1.7 billion Muslims, who are overwhelmingly committed to peace and want to live normal lives.
I invite all readers to visit my Baitul Naseer mosque in Hallandale Beach and witness firsthand how my Ahmadiyya Muslim Community empowers youth like me and engages us is healthy civic activities. We embody the spirit of service and giving. We are law-abiding Muslims who love America and share the same aspirations as our fellow citizens.
