Caring for the sick and elderly is part of the overall mantra of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at (AMJ). That will soon be put into practice locally.
AMJ representatives were on hand at Milton District Hospital Tuesday afternoon for the launch of their inaugural Run for Milton, slated for Saturday, May 28.
Featuring both a 5 and 1km run/walk, the event will begin and end at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (velodrome) and serve as a fundraiser for the hospital.
“I’m humbled and flattered. Thank-you… from my heart to yours,” said Milton District Hospital Foundation Chair Brian Penman, upon accepting a framed picture of AMJ’s slogan — Love For All, Hatred For None — which served as a tangible symbol of the new partnership. “I’m touched. This is a great way to bring together old and new Milton. I wish you every success.”
Following the launch — which included a reading from the Quran, which speaks to the importance of charity — race director Shaazia Saeed said the local hospital’s expansion made for a natural opportunity to bring AMJ’s ever-expanding work to Milton.
“We’ve helped a number of hospitals and health-care facilities. People from all walks of life benefit from these places, so it ties into our motto,” she said, noting that a similar run in Vaughan has raised $500,000 in the past 12 years. Milton marks the fourth stop on the AMJ’s run series, which includes one in Calgary. “This is our way of practising our faith and giving back.”

The run will begin at 9 a.m.
