Women wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community Preston, Lajna Ima'illah, arranged for BBC Radio Lancashire to cover their hamper gifts presentation to the Hope Centre, which is a support service for women who have suffered from domestic violence and abuse.
The radio show lasted for over 2 hours interspersed with other features. The Lajna members were speaking for about 40 minutes.
The hamper presentation happened to coincide with a controversial Channel 4 documentary titled 'What British Muslims Really Think '. The documentary outraged many Muslims who believe that it is a further attempt to demonise the British Muslim population. Ahmadi women answered some difficult questions regarding this documentary. (See below link for the radio programme.)
Sadeya Callaghan, president of Preston Lajna, expressed gratitude to BBC Radio Lancashire for providing the Preston Lajna an opportunity to demystify some of the issues relating Islam.
"The interview was challenging at times, however, we felt the true message of Islam had been communicated to the listeners of the programme," Sadeya Callaghan said.
