Several Ahmadi Muslim volunteers with bin bags and litter pickers in hand on Saturday, 9th April 2016, helped clean up the streets of Dewsbury for the Queen’s 90th birthday initiative.
Twelve volunteers, which included 9 young children aged between 6 and 11, were inspired by the teaching that ‘Loyalty to One’s Country is a Part of Faith’.
The organizing volunteer and a member of the AMA, Dr Abid Ahmad, said many Ahmadi Muslims have enjoyed living in Dewsbury for decades.
"Any opportunity to help our local community is a much welcomed one," expressed Dr Ahmad. "Cleaning the streets of Dewsbury also presents us with an opportunity to contribute back into the community and teach everyone that cleanliness in Islam is an important part of a Muslim’s faith."
“We are a peace loving and law-abiding Muslim community, with the motto, “Love for All Hatred for None”, which will continue to help make Dewsbury an even better place to live in.”
Arif Ahmad, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Spen Valley clarified in an email to The Times of Ahmad that although it was a privately organized event, it was a noble and worthwhile effort.
