SILVER SPRINGS, Maryland: Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA), the young men organization of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, is gathering young Muslim men from across the nation this weekend at Yosemite National Park for workshops and competitions aimed at fostering brotherhood and helping the youth establish an American Muslim identity. Its 48th annual retreat is the longest running Muslim youth retreat in the U.S.

At a tumultuous time in which Muslims and Islam have been used as a political tool to drum up fear and uncertainty by questioning the intentions of Muslims, these Muslim youth will gather to discuss the state of Islam in America while also discussing youth radicalization, civic mindedness and combating hatred in all forms.

The four day annual retreat begins today and typically attracts more than 1,000 Muslim youth from around the nation. This year will be the first time the retreat is hosted on the West Coast and will include hiking and other outdoor activities and lessons as well.
