As details emerge about Omar Mateen, the slain suspect in the worst mass shooting in US history, so do those of his friends and associates. In an unexpected twist, the Imam from the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce, where Mateen spent time as recently as two days ago, now tells a local reporter that he is “pro-Trump,” and sees “a lot of positive effects” from a potential Donald Trump presidency. The Imam said he didn’t think Trump would be as scary for Muslims as people think:

According to WPTV reporter Meghan McRoberts, though, the Imam followed by saying that a Trump presidency would focus anger and attention away from Muslims:

Unexpected statement: Imam says he is “pro trump”. Says if trump were in office, the anger would shift away from Muslims. @WPTV
