The Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, Alhaj Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, has called on Ghanaians to pool together to build a united, happy, peaceful, harmonious, just and great country of which both the present and future generations will be justifiably proud.
He has, therefore, stressed the need for Ghanaians to go to the polls later this year with sentiments of love and affection, as well as respect and consideration.
He said the country had succeeded in holding elections six times already, adding: “We should all pray and resolve that we will succeed in doing it again this year around to prevent the unnecessary difficulties, anguish and pain that other countries go through as a result of bickering that surrounds their elections.”
‘Make occasion meaningful’
Maulvi Bin Salih said the Eid was being celebrated at a time when Ghanaians were engrossed in partisan political campaigning, with two months to the election, adding that it was a crucial period when the principles of the celebration ought to be meaningful and practical.
“This is the time for us as Ghanaians to practically and committedly exhibit the attitude of selfless sacrifices, devoid of rancour and attrition. It is opportune enough for us to take a cue from the Prophet Abraham, his wife and his son and do ourselves good to leave behind a legacy worthy of approbation and emulation by posterity,” he urged.
He said Eid-ul-Adha was an occasion for introspection and stock-taking, as it laid down a couple of principles for any person or group who aspired to progress and develop, whether in religious pursuits or mundane affairs.
No progress without sacrifice
“It brings to light the fact that without sacrifice, there can be no progress and development. It spells out the irrevocable fact that he who aspires to greater heights must make sacrifices to that effect,” he said.

He urged Muslims to cultivate respect for one another and uphold the requirements of human dignity, irrespective of race, colour, station in life or political or cultural affiliation.
Keep praying for political leadership
The Ameer advised Ghanaians to keep praying for the leadership of the political parties and their activists for them to be guided by the prime concern for the welfare of the country and be cautious of what to say or do as they went about their campaign activities.
He further called on Ghanaians to resolve to condemn any act or speech that had the tendency to undermine the peace and stability of the country, regardless of the political party the actor or speaker belonged to.
“We need to harness our collective strength towards peace and national progress and that will require that we redouble our efforts as individuals. We can only attain that if we sacrifice our ego and pride and think of the good of the majority, instead of our own selfish aims,” he said.
Maulvi Bin Salih entreated members of the various political parties to accord the leadership of other parties the same respect they accorded the leaders of their own parties.
