Harmony Walk, celebrating "Unity in our Diversity," will begin at 2 p.m. Sept. 18, at the entrance to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2121 N. Third St., Harrisburg, and will be held rain or shine. People of all religions, including Buddhist, Baha'i, Hindu, Sikh, and those of no specific faith are invited. The purpose of the event is to bring together people of many faiths in harmony and peace. A bus will be provided for those with difficulty walking.
The walk route will include Christian, Jewish, and Islamic houses of worship. In addition to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, stops will be made at St. Paul Episcopal Church, Madeline Olewine Library, Kesher Israel Congregation, Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church and Hadee Mosque. At each stop the religious leader will speak on the value of unity among religions. At the library entrance, walkers will be greeted by leaders of additional faiths.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will provide a light dinner at the Hadee Mosque. For more information, contact the Rev. Cynthia Mara at interfaithcenter@juno.com, or Behzad Zandieh at bzandieh@hotmail.com.
The Harmony Walk is sponsored by the InterReligious Forum of Greater Harrisburg, and co-sponsored by the Mayor's Interfaith Advisory Council and The Interfaith Center of Greater Harrisburg.
