[Excerpt]

[On] Sunday, the local Muslim community once again organized a blood drive to honor 9/11 victims and first responders.

The turnout for the 6th Annual Muslims for Life Blood Drive included individuals of different races and faiths.

Organizers say the benefit is true representation of their faith, which they say has been distorted since the events on September 11th, 2001.

"Those that claimed to be Muslims took innocent lives, so we're saying as Muslims, we're showing the true picture of Islam, we're going to shed blood to save lives," said Mubarak Bashir, Director of Faith Outreach with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
