In line with a notice issued by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), airing of 11 Christian TV Channels is to be stopped. The notice is issued to all the regional general managers calling for immediate measures to stop the transmissions of the Christian channels which have being termed, “ illegal.”
The notice reads:
“It has been reported that following illegal and unlicensed Satellite TV Channels are being aired on Cable TV Networks across the country” PEMRA had mentioned 11 Pakistani Christian TV channels their names are as follows:
1)ISAAC TV, 2) GAWAHI TV, 3)GOD BLESS TV, 4) BARKAT TV, 5) PRAISE TV, 6) ZINDAGI TV, 7) SHINE TV, 8) JESUS TV (JESSI TV) 9) HEALING TV, 10) KHUSHKHABARI TV, 11) CATHOLIC TV
"All Regional General Managers are requested to take necessary measures to stop transmission /relaying of above mentioned illegal TV Channels from Cable TV Networks in the respective regions immediately," the notice directs.
Supreme Court sets date for Asia Bibi’s plea against death sentence
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced that it will take up Asia Bibi's appeal against her death sentence on October 13th.
Asia Bibi, a Christian woman, having been convicted of committing blasphemy during an argument with a Muslim woman, has been on death row since November 2010.
The argument had reportedly erupted over a bowl of water in the town of Sheikhupura, Punjab, in June 2009.
Her case got more prominence when the then Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer commented over the abuse of the controversial blasphemy law and demanded a presidential pardon for Aasia Bibi.
Governor Salmaan Taseer was murdered for siding with a Christian women accused in a blasphemy case.
