Pakistan: Man booked for ‘blasphemy’ in Punjab


According to Sara-i-Mughal SHO Adil Shaukat, Saqib narrated the incident to his friend Abid who approached the police for registration of case.

KASUR: Police on Sunday registered a case against a man on charges of blasphemy at Sheikhum village, Sara-i-Mughal.

Abid Rasheed in his complaint lodged with police said suspect ‘S’ had an argument with his friend Saqib Sattar over a trifle a couple of days back. During the course of discussion, the suspect allegedly uttered derogatory remarks about a companion of the prophet. The FIR quoted the complainant as saying that the suspect later repented of what he had said.

Sara-i-Mughal police registered the case under section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion and religious beliefs) and 298-A (use of derogatory remarks, etc in respect of holy personages) of PPC. The 20-year-old suspect is a tailor and he has been arrested.

Earlier on Friday, City Phoolnagar police registered a case against a man on charges of blasphemy and arrested him. According to complainant Qamarudin Noorani, general secretary of Sunni Ulema Council, Jamia Masjid Siddiquia, 30-year-old suspect “S”, a fertiliser dealer, allegedly uploaded a picture (drawing) and statement on Facebook carrying derogatory words regarding a religious personality and shared it with others.

The case was registered under sections 295-A, 298-A and Cyber Crime Act 2016.
