Saskatchewan’s largest purpose-built mosque is now in operation.
While landscaping work continues on the mosque in Saskatoon, Shamoon Rashid is the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at.
Hesays the mosque has been open for prayers for the past couple of months.
Rashid says the mosque on the southeast corner of the city is open for anyone who believes in one God, not just the Muslim community.
“By welcoming general community members, and the public in general, hopefully this will create a better understanding between the communities,” said Rashid. “And hopefully this will build bridge between the communities and that’s what we as an opportunity.”
Rashid says the mosque can accommodate as many as 2-thousand people.
