British Ahmadi Muslim School Children From South West London Walk Miles To Raise Funds For Classrooms In Africa

This bank holiday weekend, local school children from Masroor Region, based in South West London, will be joining hundreds of children from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) to walk a mile at several different sites across London and the Home Counties, including London’s oldest Mosque in Southfields and Western Europe’s largest Mosque in Morden.

They are raising vital funds for the UK based charity, Humanity First. The walk will take place on Saturday 27th May at the Fazl Mosque, Southfields , a day before many Muslims will begin the month of fasting across the country.

The children are raising vital funds for UK based charity, Humanity First, who have launched the Classroom Transformation Project under their Knowledge for Life programme. They aim to turn drab classrooms in low income countries into vibrant learning environments, inspiring students and teachers alike.

These schools in Africa are in desperate need of basic school equipment and general refurbishment. It costs only £100 to transform a single classroom and the children hope to raise enough money to transform hundreds of classrooms.

Simultaneously, local children from AMYA in the North will be walking 3 miles for Yorkshire based Forget Me Not Hospice, who support children with life shortening conditions and their families in West Yorkshire.

The walks form part of AMYA’s annual ‘Mercy4Mankind’ campaign which includes regular homeless feeding sessions, tree planting and hospital and care home visits.

The campaign’s name is sourced from the Holy Qur’an, in which the Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him) was referred to as a ‘Mercy for all Mankind’.

The youth hope to not only fulfil their religious obligation of helping those in need, but further wish to fulfil their duty to their fellow countrymen. Through their tireless work they have sent a message of peace and harmony and have displayed a true passion and yearning for contributing to British society.
