Clearly there are increased concerns over community cohesion which could lead to further backlash and hate crime, with so many tragedies happening in such a short space of time.

Total Policing is the Met's commitment to be on the streets and in your communities to catch offenders, prevent crime and support victims. We are here for London, working with you to make our capital safer.

Dear Community members/residents

The community will be waking up to the news that a suspected act of terror has been perpetrated against the Muslim community in North London.

This will understandably shock and frighten people, both in the context of the recent tragic incidents in London and Manchester and with the Muslim community still grieving for so many of their community who are believed to have been killed in the Kensington fire, whilst experiencing a backlash of hate crime.

Clearly there are increased concerns over community cohesion which could lead to further backlash and hate crime, with so many tragedies happening in such a short space of time.

We are already increasing patrols where possible in the high footfall areas, and will be looking to conduct reassurance patrols at all religious venues.

We want to make sure that our message is heard; that we will not tolerate hate crime in any form. We are encouraging reporting – it is vital to ensure that we can manage any emerging trends.

If you become aware of any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me or my officers. We are here to help.

Kind regards,
Marlise Davies
Inspector | Hillingdon Borough West Safer Neighbourhoods
