Local Muslim community members are asking Muslims to not go to the rallies in downtown Syracuse. Naeem A. Chaudari, president of the Syracuse chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said he doesn't want any incidents to occur.

Instead Chaudari suggests members of the community attend the 15th Annual Duck Race to End Racism event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Inner Harbor.

CNY Solidarity Coalition issued a statement, saying it rejects the mischaracterization of Sharia and condemns the ACT for America rally.

ACT for America is the largest grassroots anti-Muslim group in America, claiming 280,000 members and over 1,000 chapters, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that tracks hate groups.

ACT's Facebook page for the march contains racist and violent content directed toward Islam and Muslims, the center said.

ACT and other anti-Muslim groups have long sought to spread fear of Islam by arguing that Sharia law poses a threat to American laws -- a complete legal falsehood, the center said.
