On September 10, 2017 at around 12 noon Dr. Salah-ud-Din Saahib of Central Jersey Jamaat passed away from sudden Cardiac Arrest (إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ‎‎).

Dr. Salah-ud-Din, son of (Late) Moulvi Imam-ud-Din Saahib - Missionary Incharge Indonesia, was born on April 9, 1953 in Rabwah, Pakistan.

Among Dr. Salah-ud-Din’s family, his grandfather, Abdul Ghafoor Saahib was the first one to accept Ahmadiyyat by witnessing and recognizing Allah’s divine revelations about the descent of the Promised Massiah (SA). One day, as he was working on his farm, someone informed him that the Massiah you have been waiting for has arrived in Qadiyan. He instantly dropped everything he was doing and started heading towards Qadiyan from Jalla Aaraa’een Multan without even informing his family. Upon meeting the promised Massiah (SA) he immediately accepted Ahmadiyaat.

Moulvi Imam-ud-Din Saahib was the youngest amongst five siblings. His father Abdul Ghafoor Saahib tried to put all his sons through school but unfortunately none of them made it past elementary school. When Moulvi Imam-ud-Din Saahib was in either 4th or 5th grade, he hid his school bag on his way to school and instead started his journey towards Qadiyaan. When he exhausted all of his money, he started to walk from Batala. On his way, he met 2 people, who upon his request took him to Qadiyan themselves considering his young age. Thereafter, Maulana Peer Siraj-ul-Haq sahib Naumani was given the responsibility of his education and upbringing. Sometime later, a letter was sent to his worried father informing him of his son’s arrival to Qadiyan. Moulvi Imam-ud-Din hence stayed in Qadiyan and received education in Jamia Ahmadiyya and later passed examinations for “Moulvi Fazil.”

(Late) Moulvi Imam-ud-Din Saahib spent majority of his life as a missionary in-charge of Indonesia. Dr. Salah-ud-Din’s Maternal Grandfather, Moulvi Abul Bishaarat Abdul Ghafoor Sahib (RA) was a companion of the Promised Massiah (SA).

Dr. Salah-ud-Din completed B.Sc. in Rabwah and went to Government College Lahore for M.Sc. in physics as per instruction of Hazrat Khalifatul Massih ul Saalis (RA). Later, he completed his Ph.D. in Bio-Chemistry from London as per guidance of Khalifatul Masshih ul Raabay (RA). Then he came to Long Island New York to complete his post doctorate and performed Cancer Research.

At the time of Hazrat Khalifatul Massih ul Raabay’s (RA) migration to London, Dr. Din has the privilege of serving the Jamaat in various capacities under Khilaafat’s blessings. Dr. Din’s research contributions were eternalized in acknowledgements section by Hazrat Khalifatul Massih ul Raabay (RA) in his book “Revelation, Rationality, Knowledge and Truth”. Hazur (RA) said “ Dr. Salah-ud-Din did a great job in finding lost references. I had not remembered the titles of the articles or the years of their publications. All he had to work with was a general idea of the subject matter I had retained in my memory. Amazingly he retrieved everything and to my pleasant surprise, my memory of what had been said was precise.”

Before 1992, guests of the Jalsa Salaana USA were served American Food. As per the instructions of Khilafa Raabay (RA), the langar was established and Dr. Din discharged his duties for 25 years with great passion, until his death. During this time, he, along with his trusted team, modernized and automated the Langar Khana System and processes to use minimal resources and maintain highest quality. In one of his comments after this year’s Jalsa, he mentioned that he prays to be able to serve the guests of Hazrat Massih (AS) until the final year of his life, and Allah answered his prayers.

Dr. Salah-ud-Din cared deeply about educating the younger generation and was always ready to guide the youth in every respect. He used to teach students on the phone all night, if needed. He himself also taught recently arrived doctors to the USA for USMLE examinations.

He helped the needy and poor without any reservations or anybody’s knowledge. He spent his entire life with simplicity and austerity. Whenever anyone encouraged him to spend more on himself, he responded that a good and content life can be spent without spending too much on one’s self, and the money saved should be spend on serving the less fortunate. He displayed the same attitude towards the Jamaat’s money and treated it with even more care and did not waste any opportunity to save every cent he could, regardless of the extra effort it might require.

After his demise, many respected members of the Jamaat who called for condolences shared his stories of sacrifice and personal assistance he extended towards them of which even his immediate family was unaware of.

He left four bereaving sisters:
• Omama Farhat wife of (Late) Khalifa Razi-ud-Din
• Naeema Farhat wife of Hameed Ahmad Malik
• Hamama Farhat wife of (Late) Nazir Ahmed
• Samina Farhat wife of Malik Shahid Awan

He served his mother with great responsibility until her demise last year. After her death, he continued taking care of his sisters like a father.

May Allah enable the younger generation of his family to follow in his footsteps and serve the Jamaat and Khilaafat selflessly with the same dedication.
