'The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) upheld and preserved the rights of Christians'
A group of students from the local theological seminary visited the Baitul Ahad, the Japan mosque, in Nagoya. Students were given a detailed tour around the mosque by Imam Anees Ahmed Nadeem.
The Imam also gave a brief overview of the teachings of Islam and explained the similarities found both in the Holy Bible and the Holy Quran regarding the miraculous birth of Jesus son of Mary, alongside other various similarities.
He also mentioned that Islam means peace, and in order to have a peaceful and harmonious society we have to understand each other's right and responsibilities.
In Particular he mentioned, how the Holy Prophet Muhammed (saw) granted the right to freely practice any religion of one’s own choice.
Imam Nadeem also presented a few historical accounts from the books of history, including the following two incident, shedding light on the fact that how the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) upheld and preserved the rights of Christians from Najran.
Christians from Najran vist the Prophet
It is reported in the books of history that:
The (Najran) delegation came to the Messenger of Allah in Al-Madinah, entered his Masjid wearing robes and garments, after the Prophet had prayed the `Asr prayer. They accompanied a caravan of camels led by Bani Al-Harith bin Ka`b. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah who saw them said that they never saw a delegation like them after that. When their worship time came, they stood up to perform their worship in the Prophet’s Masjid. Messenger of Allah said: “Let them (worship)” and they prayed towards east.
A treaty of protection issued for Christians in a letter to Sinai monks
This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them. Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them.
No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries
No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.
No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.
Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).Students observed certain acts of Muslim worship while visiting the mosque.
