A Hoosier Muslim community encourages you to meet a Muslim and ask questions.

STATE WIDE--Islam has been perverted and people who commit acts of terror in the name of Islam have been brainwashed, says the Indiana Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. They're reminding you that they meet every month as part of a national outreach, and you're invited.

"Once people meet a Muslim they realize that their stereotypes and their doubts and fears are not really real," said Muzaffar Ahmad, with the Community. "Islam is just as much a religion of peace as any other religion is."

He said the group gets together every Wednesday night at a Panera in Fishers.

"We invite people to come in and we serve them coffee and pastries and give them an opportunity to talk and ask questions about Islam," said Ahmad.

He said meeting a Muslim instead of just listening to what you hear on the radio, see on TV or read on Facebook, will help change your mind if you have a negative view of the religion as a whole.

"People like ISIS have hijacked the teachings of Islam and they just take things out of context and prey on these poor individuals," he said, of the attack in New York.
