Result of a survey showing Pope Francis as the most favorable world leader is not surprising for an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
CBCP vice president and Caloocan Bishop Pablo David said he was not surprised with the outcome of the survey since the pontiff has also set the bar on leadership for the bishops.
“I agree (with the survey),” he said in an interview.
“He sets the bar on leadership for his brother bishops all over the world, one that is moral but not moralistic, spiritual but not pietistic,” added David.
And since the pontiff is leading a state as well, the CBCP official said it’s not surprising that he is also setting the bar on statesmanship for the secular world.
David believes the Holy Father will be known as the “Pope of Mercy and Compassion” as the latter effectively revived the spirit of renewal in the Church.
Based on Gallup International’s 41st Annual Global End of Year Survey, Pope Francis recorded the highest level of favorability among global leaders worldwide with 56 percent.
In the Philippines, 87 percent of Filipinos also have a “favorable” opinion of the pontiff as opposed to the 7 percent “unfavorable.”
The Philippines is a predominantly Catholic country.
According to the website of Gallup International, more than 50,000 individuals were interviewed globally for the survey with a representative sample of around 1,000 men and women in each country.
