Greece: Leaders from Religious, Political, Civic & Academic backgrounds came together at the 4th National Peace Symposium organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Greece to promote harmony, mutual understanding and peace.
The event took place in Divani Caravel Hotel, Athens on 8th of May 2018. The speakers included Imam Atta-Ul Naseer, National President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Greece who gave a welcome address.
Rabbi Gabriel Negrin representing the Jewish Community quoted the Holy Torah & discussed the importance of mutual understanding and the need for unity for our Existence which was the theme of this event.
Ms.Foteini Stefanopoulo, Representative of the Mayor of Thessaloniki spoke about the hard work being done by the municipality of Thessaloniki with regards to peaceful coexistence of people and integration of refugees. She also mentioned her visit to the Peace Symposium in UK and her meeting with his Holiness the Caliph of Islam.
Imam Ibrahim Noonan Missionary Incharge Ireland & representing His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba), and supreme head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community delivered the key-note address. He spoke about the theme according to an Islamic Perspective quoting the verses from the Holy Qur’an about Peace and Mutual understanding.
He said:
“So, the reason I started with this, is to show that the role of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Greece and around the world is to establish peace and to show how actually the purpose of Islam is to unite humankind on the path of peace.”
Other distinguished guests included Ms. Holly Metcalf, Human Rights Officer of US Embassy & Ms. Debbie DesRosiers, Counselor of the Canadian Embassy. The event was attended by over 80 guests from various religious, political & civic society.
An exhibition of the Holy Qur’an was also organized which included 40 pull-up banners in Greek & English explaining various key teachings of Islam on Peace, Humanity & Religious Harmony. The event concluded with silent prayers for Peace of the World & Dinner.
