“The more people that come along, the more money we can raise for these fantastic causes and reward them for the vital work they do for the district. So get involved in this enjoyable event and give back to the charities which do so much for the community.”

THE Ahmadiyya Muslim Elder Association will join forces with East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) next Saturday (May 12) to host an annual fundraising walk.
To be held this year in Petersfield, the Charity Walk for Peace is expected to attract walkers of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy the three-and-a-half mile route around the town.
Designed to promote the Ahmadiyya motto “love for all, hatred for none” the walk will raise money for nine charities working in East Hampshire. They are Artscape, Challengers, Rosemary Foundation, Fitzroy, Home-Start WeyWater, Home-Start Butser, Age Concern Cowplain, Dementia Friendly Petersfield and The Kings Arms.
The event will be the second in East Hampshire, with last year’s walk raising more than £7,000.
All participants will be treated to lunch by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elder Association once the walk has been completed.
Julie Butler, EHDC’s portfolio holder for customer relations, said: “The Walk for Peace is a great chance to get out of the house, be active, meet new people and, ultimately, raise money for local charities.
“The more people that come along, the more money we can raise for these fantastic causes and reward them for the vital work they do for the district. So get involved in this enjoyable event and give back to the charities which do so much for the community.”
Rizwan Khan, regional chairman of the Charity Walk for Peace, said: “The charity walk for peace was founded in the service of humanity, rooted in the call of duty and inspired by the love of God.
“Our aim is to relieve the suffering of the poor, to promote peace, understanding and good will among people of all walks of life.
“We want to help society and to support charitable endeavours and demonstrate loyalty to country and nation. The distinctive feature of the charity walk for peace is that all organisers are unpaid volunteers and there are no administrative costs. Every penny raised goes to charity.
“Participating in the Charity Walk for Peace is a fantastic way to support your favourite charity whilst getting active in the outdoors. Big steps and little steps are being taken for good causes.”
The walk will begin and end at EHDC’s offices at Penns Place, Petersfield, and will start with an opening ceremony at 10.45am.
The walk is open to everyone. To register, visit charitywalkforpeace.org.
