Faith and Freedom: Straying from Islam

There is not a single place in Islamic tradition or scripture that says to go out and blow people up in the name of your religion. The actions of these terrorists are the complete antithesis to what Islam professes and teaches or what the overwhelming majority of Muslims believe.

As a Muslim and Southern California native of Pakistani descent, I am particularly disturbed with the recent foiled Times Square bomb plot.

I want to condemn this act of terrorism in the strongest way possible.

Islam is a religion of peace and the word "Islam" itself means peace and submission to God. Terror and Islam are like oil and water; they don't mix at all. The problem nowadays is that those who have gone so far away from the Islamic teachings are allowed to shape the public image of Islam.

In contrast to Faisal Shahzad's stance, Prophet Muhammad stated, "to love one's country is a part of their faith." As a Muslim here in the United States, I enjoy and am blessed with freedoms many people around the world do not have. I truly feel embarrassed as a Muslim and a student of Pakistani heritage when I see these so-called Muslims profess these radical agendas.

There is not a single place in Islamic tradition or scripture that says to go out and blow people up in the name of your religion. The actions of these terrorists are the complete antithesis to what Islam professes and teaches or what the overwhelming majority of Muslims believe.

I subscribe to the motto "Love for All, Hatred for None" and ask everyone to learn more about Islam and realize that Faisal Shahzad's actions are as far as you can get from this beautiful religion.
