BIRMINGHAM Muslims were urged to put their best food forward and raise money for a host of charities, and they did.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA), based in Bordesley, is marking its silver jubilee ‘Charity Challenge’, by organising a 10km run.
Organisers had hope to beat the £112,800 collected last year and raise money for ten charities including The Royal British Legion.
According to Mr Tommy Kallon, President AMYA, "more than £150,000 was promised which, once collected, would be the largest sum in MKA UK Charity Challenge history."
Great Ormond Street Hospital, Macmillan Cancer Support, Save the Children, Humanity First, Barnardo’s, will benefit from the funds raised.
The race took place on Sunday, May 9th at Windsor Great Park, Sheet Street, Windsor.
Mr Tommy Kallon said: “All of the money raised goes directly to help those needy people."
"Whilst fund-raising and collection are important, their underlying purpose stands as the most essential component. That essential component is the service of Allah’s creation, not just in words but in our actions," Mr Kallon explained.
