Pakistan travel advice change

British High Commission's travel advice to Pakistan has changed. Lahore is now included among those areas to which they advise against all but essential travel.

This change follows a recent increase in terrorist attacks in Lahore.

Staff at the British High Commission in Islamabad and the British Deputy High Commission in Karachi are restricted from travelling to Lahore for all but essential reasons.

There is a high threat from terrorism and sectarian violence throughout the country. Events across the country show that terrorist attacks are continuing. Statements issued by militant groups have threatened more attacks in the coming weeks.

"This advice has been reviewed and reissued with an amendment to the Summary and Terrorism section (terrorist attacks in Lahore)," says Foreign & Commonwealth Office website.  "The overall level of this advice has changed; we advise against all travel to specific regions of Pakistan and against all but essential travel to other specific regions of Pakistan, including Lahore."

British nationals considering a visit to Pakistan should consult the Foreign Office Pakistan Travel Advice before they travel.
