Al-Qaida has claimed responsibility for killing nearly 60 worshipers assembled at the Our Lady of Salvation Church in Iraq. Al-Qaida cannot justify this barbaric act in the name of Islam, as the Quran orders Muslims to fight to protect all places of worship.
Those who committed this crime cannot be the true followers of the Prophet Muhammad, who mandated full protection for Christians from any act of aggression from Muslims. St. Catherine’s Monastery in Mount Sinai, Egypt, houses a facsimile of Prophet Muhammad’s letter in this regard.
I strongly condemn these attacks and express my most sincere condolences to the victims’ families.
