"I found this symposium to be stimulating and educational. I have to confess I did not expect to hear such views from a large and well established Muslim community. In fact I think I should say I was amazed and impressed."

It was a shock today to hear a view expressed on ITV News that Cameron and Obama met to discuss common enemies. Why were they not discussing how to achieve global peace? We have to ask and to keep asking that question.
At the weekend I was invited by the Ahmadiyya Muslims Association UK to a Peace Symposium in Oxfordshire. I was most impressed by the teaching in their keynote address by Imam Ataul Mujeeb Rashed Imam of the London Mosque, that the Holy Quran is a book of peace. All who attended were exploring the way to achieve peace or, if not committed to that aim, they were at least listening carefully to a wide range of related views and receiving them warmly.
I found this symposium to be stimulating and educational. I have to confess I did not expect to hear such views from a large and well established Muslim community. In fact I think I should say I was amazed and impressed.
Also present was the Conservative MP for Henley, Rt Hon John Howell, who also spoke at this meeting. It would not be reasonable for me to interpret from his facial expressions and our brief chat what his views were, but I feel confident he too was stimulated in a positive way by the proceedings, and felt that his attendance was of positive value.
That is one small step towards peace and a positive venture by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Oxford. It is therefore a great pleasure to be able to praise this activity on this blog under an article about someone who called (for) "an unblemished record for dispassionate compassion".
