Muslim youth take record shot at Stouffville park
They were all smiles at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area during the weekend.
Literally.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth, who gathered for a three-day retreat at the Whitchurch-Stouffville park, took time to unofficially break the world record for human formation of a smiley face Saturday.
With temperatures soaring, organizers were concerned how long it would take to gather participants and make them stay for the 10 minutes in the smiley formation required by the Guinness World Records body.
“In the end, it took just 30 minutes to gather 2,961 participants and another 10 minutes to break the world record,” said Rizwan Rabbani, coordinator of the record-breaking attempt. “Everyone was ecstatic at the achievement.”
Record-breaking attempts must be documented and submitted to Guinness for verification.
Provincial and federal politicians and the president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community witnessed the attempt.
Oak Ridges-Markham MPP Helena Jaczek said that the attempt to break the record sums up the organization’s motto, “Love for All, Hatred for None.”
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a religious organization with branches in more than 190 countries, including 60 across Canada.
