State Prosecutors demanded 5-7 month prison terms for 12 suspects implicated in the mob attack that brutally murdered three members of religious minority group Ahmadiyah in Cikeusik, Banten, in February.

The prosecution demanded 7 months jail sentences each for Muhammad bin Syarif, H. Ujang, Saad Baharuddin, Endang Bin Sidik, Ujang, Adam Damini, Muhamad Munir, Yusri and Rohidin and Yusuf Abidin, and, respectively 5 months and 6 months behind bars for Dani Bin Misra and Idris, who are minors.

Upon hearing the demand, the suspects’ supporters, who had begun arriving at the court since morning, cheered.

The defendants are being jointly tried for assault, inciting violence, mistreating others, participating in an assault and illegally possessing sharp weapons.

However, prosecutors have declined to charge anyone with the murder or manslaughter of the three Ahmadis who died in the incident.

In February, about 1,500 people attacked an Ahmadiyah community in Cikeusik, Banten, killing three.

The hearing was guarded by police and military personnel, who were equipped with a water cannon and riot vehicles.
