Three hundred people attended the fundraiser in Sartaoga Springs, NY on June 12, 2011 where the organizers raised over three thousand dollars for use towards flood relief efforts by ShelterBox USA.
Ahmadiyya Muslim members joined the fundraiser organized with Saratoga Springs congregations of Temple Sinai and Presbyterian-New England Congregational Church (PNECC).
The interfaith cooperation was apparent in the t-shirts worn by the PNECC church administration saying 'Today, I am a Muslim too.'
Tahira Khan, a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Rotterdam Junction was joined by the leaders from Temple Sinai and PNECC in this fund raising effort.
“I am so happy to be involved in this,” said Khan while talking to Times Union. “Whatever way we can help as a community we are grateful to do so. It is pure Islam, to bring people together.”
According to Times Union Khan said that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s motto is "Love for all, hatred for none."
“We wanted to include as many communities as possible. I hope such events serve not only the victims but forge friendships and love for each other.”
“All of us want to serve humanity. We are all taking part to show the world we can be unified. We can show love for each other,” Khan added.
The PNECC and Temple Sinai wants to make it a yearly event, choosing a different charity each year.
