Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda is scheduled to open an annual national Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat-Tanzania conference to be held in Dar es Salaam on Friday this week.

An official statement issued by leader and missionary in-charge of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat-Tanzania Sheikh Tahir Mahmood Chaudhry in Dar es Salaam yesterday said the national conference would be attended by members of the Ahmadiyya community, invited guests from other religions and leaders of civil societies, government leaders and other dignitaries.

The cleric said the conference would discuss a number of issues including peace and obligation to their creator and fellow human beings.

This is the 42th annual conference, known in the Ahmadiyya circles as ‘Jalsa Salana’, which was pioneered by the founder of the community, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.

Born in 1835, the Ahmadiyya leader and founder thought that the meeting would provide an opportunity for members from across the world to digest and exchange notes regarding their well-being, religions, world peace and other related issues.

“The first Jalsa Salana, under the guidance of Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam, was held in Qdiana India on December 27, 1891. Since that time, we (Tanzania) have been holding this conference every year. In fact, it has now become a tradition for members of the Ahmadiyya community in different parts of the world to organise such meetings on an annual basis,” said Chaudhry.

“Basically, the conference has been designed to remind Ahmadiyya Muslim members about their obligation to respect God’s principles and practically fulfill them, continuous prayers as well as love and care for other human beings,” he added.

According to him, such conferences give the participants exposure to the spiritual teachings and issues related to social unity in the context of building a united society, cooperation and consolidating peace and harmony amongst members of different religions.

Ahmadiyya is one of the strong Muslim communities with networks and operational branches in more than 198 countries in the world - in Africa, North and South America, Asia, Australia and Europe, said Chaudhry.

Discussions during the three-day meeting (September 23 – 25) would mainly focus on several key areas: The importance of teachings of the holy Qur’aan as well as culture of love and tolerance, as demonstrated by Prophet Mtume Mohamed (S.A.W).

Additionally, he said participants to the conference would also deliberate on the contribution of the Ahmadiyya community to Tanzania’s 50th independence anniversary, especially in the fight against three enemies facing millions of Tanzanians - poverty, illiteracy, and diseases, stated Chaudhry.

Around 3000 people - from Ahmadiyya associations and other religions - are expected to attend the meeting, he said.
