Faith and practice: Muslims must reach out

I think such survey comparisons are misdirected. How one can compare Muslims with non-religious subsets such as atheists, aboriginals, Chinese, blacks and Hispanics? Then again there are many subsets of Muslims.

Re: "Negativity towards Muslims remains: survey; Canadians see conflict between West, Islam 'irreconcilable,' " The Journal, Oct. 16. [read here]

What a coincidence that over 50 young and old Ahmadiyya Muslims were knocking at doors, talking to Edmontonians about Islam and Muslims and handing over pamphlets as part of their biannual campaign.

There were no hints of irreconcilable differences. They gladly accepted the information with smiles and appreciated that it is being done to counter these types of negative surveys.

I found one positive thing from this survey: that work is cut out for Muslims in Canada in general and in Edmonton in particular, to change this negative image of themselves.

Perceptions are a complex issue and all Muslims in Edmonton should unite and get out and remove such perceptions through our own examples.
