Thanksgiving is one of those American holidays that transcends religion.
Buddhists and Baha’is, Mennonites and Muslims, Catholics and Christian Scientists all take time to give thanks for their blessings.
Many hold ecumenical services. Some hold community dinners.
The InterReligious Forum of Greater Harrisburg will hold its 22nd Thanksgiving interfaith service at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Hadee Mosque at 245 Division St. in Harrisburg.
Representatives of various faiths will share their teaching on Thanksgiving. Imam Naseem Mehdi will be the speaker.
“By providing the opportunity for interfaith understanding and dialogue, we can provide an atmosphere of appreciation and respect for each other,” said Akram Khalid, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Harrisburg and Central Pennsylvania.
“We are called upon to confront issues of religious intolerance and prejudice in our community.”
Refreshments will be served after the service.
