The Khalīfa of Islām, His Holiness Hadhrat Mirzā Masroor Ahmad inaugurated a new mosque, Daarul Amaan, in the city of Manchester, UK, on Friday.
The Darul Amaan mosque on Greenheys Lane, built at the cost of £1.2 million, was paid for by the donations made by individual members of the community and is thought to be the second largest in Britain, it was reported.
His Holiness gave a discourse on the ideal spirit of building and populating mosques.
Quoting from various verses of the Holy Qur'ān, Hadhrat Ahmad said the Holy Qur'ān mentions a great model which ‘illustrates high standards of humility, meekness, sacrifice, prayer for one’s progeny to remain connected to God and prayer to become servant of God.’
At this latest facility in the series of purpose-built mosques, His Holiness said, the men’s Prayer hall accommodates 760 worshippers and the ladies Prayer hall accommodates 560 worshipers.
His Holiness added that the capacity can be easily increased, if needed, to accommodate up to 2000 worshippers to offer Salat in the mosque.
His Holiness reminded that while the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in the UK as well as in Europe is drawn to building of mosques, the beauty of mosques, however, is only with the worshipers.
Since 2003 when Baitul Futuh mosque was inaugurated, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community of the UK has constructed 14 purpose-built mosques, six of which have been built this year, His Holiness said.
There were 13 mosques in [mainland] Europe, His Holiness further said, and in the last seven to eight years there has been an increase of 44 mosques and the number now stands at 57 with one more facility nearing completion.
Most of the newly constructed mosques are in Germany.
His Holiness said the objective of building of Daarul Amaan and other mosques will be fulfilled when each of these mosques is so populated that it becomes constricted for the worshipers.
