As part of a 40-day initiative, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association of Canada (AMYA) will be visiting some neighbourhoods and holding prayer meetings in Brampton, Sunday, June 17.
The Muslim youth launched their campaign May 11 as a part of which they plan on visiting 40 communities in 40 days by knocking on doors, handing out literature and spreading messages of peace, said Rizwan Rabbani, national executive director of AMYA.
“The unique aspect that makes this trip so extra ordinary is that the day before our visit to each town, our volunteers will be keeping a traditional Muslim fast (no food or drink) from sunrise to sunset to pray for the well being of the town,” Rabbani said. “On the day of the visit, our volunteers will wake up at 3:45 a.m. and start the day with a special prayer for your town.”
The idea behind the 40-day initiative is to educate the residents about the teachings of Islam and dispel misconceptions about it, he said. In the last 17 months, 3,581 volunteers from 65 chapters in Canada have toured Canada, visiting more than 230 communities to host information sessions, discussions and exhibitions.
So far, the youth have travelled to 37 communities in Ontario. They started the tour in Port Dover, Ont. and will finish the challenge, Tuesday, June 19 in Barrie, Ont.
