Jinnah’s Pakistan: The Journey from facts to fiction


While Quaid-e-Azam spoke for the rights of all and spoke of religious freedom, today many call him a Kafir only because he was a Shia Muslim.

Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah is called the Father of the Nation, but what exactly were his ideologies? Do we even know what kind of a nation he wanted – Have we let Quaid-e-Azam’s principles die along with him, or are we doing anything to rekindle its fire?

It is always said “Baba’e qaum ne farmaya” but why isn’t all of what he said revealed to the people?  Why is he always shown as wearing a Sherwani and Jinnah cap?  Why isn’t M.A. Jinnah shown as the progressive person who wore suits and ties, who studied in United Kingdom and was a barrister?  Why is he only shown as a religious leader while he was a nation’s leader?

Muhammad Ali Jinnah came in when there was the need of minorities’ rights when it was apparent that there was a strong urge for someone to fight for the constitutional rights of the Muslims in India.  It had become a deep conflict where Muslims were being deprived of good jobs, ranks, and education.  Muslims were being treated as low-lifes, and it was clear that a change was needed.  It was also the time when Muslims had given up because of the situation and Jinnah then, seeing that there was no use speaking to them left for United Kingdom, never to return.

But he did return.  It was in fact, Maulana Abdul Rahim Dard, the Imam of London Mosque who persuaded Jinnah to head back to India.  Jinnah was a person who was very firm on his decision, and once when he made that decision it was very difficult to change his mind.  At the end, Jinnah said “the eloquent persuasion of the Imam left me no way of escape.” Mentioned in the Civil and Military Gazette, Lahore, 8th April 193.

Today, there are so many differences between each other because of difference of religion. In his August 11, 1947 speech, Jinnah said:
    “You are free; you are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion, caste or creed—that has nothing to do with the business of the State.”

While Quaid-e-Azam spoke for the rights of all and spoke of religious freedom, today many call him a Kafir only because he was a Shia Muslim.  The irony lies where they say all this, calling him an infidel while sitting in the Pakistan built by M.A. Jinnah himself!  This is the thanks that the nation’s naïve give him, that they live in freedom created by the struggle of Quaid and those who gave sacrifices in that tough time.  All of those struggles seem to have gone to waste only because he was a non-theocratic individual who didn’t believe in any divine mission.  This type of bigoted mindset has to be done away with, and there will be no progress until and unless Quaid’s Pakistan is brought back to life where there are equal rights for all, where all can live in peace.

Today there is a lot of resentment, rivalry and strifes all because of the little differences which would not have been an issue had it been Jinnah’s Pakistan.  Jinnah stood for a non-theocratic Pakistan, where all people could had free will and could live with brotherhood.  In a Broadcast talk to the people of the United States on Pakistan recorded February, 1948, he stated:
    “In any case Pakistan is not going to be a theocratic State to be ruled by priests with a divine mission. We have many non-Muslims—Hindus, Christians, and Parsis — but they are all Pakistanis. They will enjoy the same rights and privileges as any other citizens and will play their rightful part in the affairs of Pakistan.”

Today the people cannot get over the differences of Shia kafir, Qadiani kafir, Wahhabi kafir, Barelvi kafir, Deobandi kafir, and so on.  All this takfiri started when “Islamic Republic” was added to Pakistan’s name, which copyrighted it to be meant only for pure Muslims.  Now which one is the pure one remains the question, meanwhile Hindus, Christians, Qadianis and Sikhs and been put into the minority group and discriminated against on the basis of education, living standards, jobs, ranks, and so on.  We are seeing history being repeated due to which Pakistan was formed in the first place.  There is still a small side of people with an open mind, who are not selfish in the reason of God and are willing to share, unfortunately their words either go unheard or they are silenced by the shoutings of Mullah followers.

Today’s Pakistan is not Quaid’s Pakistan, it is Mullah’s Pakistan where every other day you will see someone arrested of fake charges of blasphemy, where people will get killed over these charges and the killers go free, where a fake show of religiosity is higher than justice, where, if a Mullah makes a fake blasphemy case on a poor disabled girl the crowd will go crazy – But wait… Not in favor of the girl, but rather against!
