The Washington, D.C.-area branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organization will hold its second annual walkathon to fight hunger Oct. 27, according to a news release. The event will be held on the University of Maryland, College Park, campus.
The organization is the youth auxiliary branch of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community; it’s Washington, D.C.-area branch is headquartered in Silver Spring.
Additional walks are planned in New Jersey, Illinois and California, the release states.

“We are dedicated to showing that Islam is a religion of peace, not just through words, but through our actions,” Bilal Rana, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organization, said in the release. “These actions will be exemplified during this walkathon. It’s a time when we can actively go out and tell our friends and neighbors what we are doing to help our society. This helps us to promote a strong American Muslim identity, develop moral training, and have a great time in doing so.”
Registration for the walk begins at noon, and the walk begins at 1 p.m. The walk will begin in front of the McKeldin Library, the release stated.
