After having a successful edition of the series; The Astonishing Story of the Prophet in early September, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community’s Brampton chapter organized an Islam open house this past Sunday, 17th November 2013.
Though the location and the environment of the event were different, the objective was the same: to show the true and peaceful message of Islam to the society.
The open house held at Chandni convention centre, featured various presentations and exhibitions including, but not limited to, the life of the Holy Prophet, Sharia Law and the prophecies of Jesus Christ.
Group discussions as well as individual sessions were held and attendees were encouraged to ask any questions and present their point of views. To better facilitate these discussions, services were offered in English, Spanish, Arabic, Urdu, and Bengali.
Khalid Dawood, Imam of a Toronto mosque, was amongst the hosts welcoming friends of the community to the event.
"These events are a great way to exchange ideas and perceptions within a frame of tolerance," said Dawood. "Truth be told, the interaction with people of other faith not only allows us to convey the peaceful message of Islam but also serves as a platform for us to better understand the belief and practice of other faiths."
Mr Young, a friend of the community said that he had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the individual sessions.
"A friend of mine invited me to the Islam open house and I wanted to take advantage of the unique opportunity," commented Young. "So far it has been a great experience, I have been given a BBC documentary: Jesus in India, and I look forward to watch it.”
Bilal Bhati, a missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said that he was impressed by the number of people who showed an interest in learning about Islam and was hopeful that events like these play an important part in educating the society.
"We invite everyone to study, and if they like something they are more than welcome to embrace it, if they have disagree with something, we are glad to sit with them and discuss," Bhatti added.
