The Majlis Khuddumul Ahmadiyaa, male youth wing of  Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at The Gambia on Thursday held its 30th annual national Itema (convention) at Nasir Senior Secondary School in Basse, Upper River Region (URR).

The theme of the convention was 'a nation cannot be reformed without reforming its youths'. The four-day convention, which brought together participants from in and outside the country, was also meant to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Majlis Khuddumul. Speaking at the event, Tahir Ahmad Touray, the president of Majlis Khuddumul, told the gathering that the contemporary world is crying for peace because destruction is looming from every horizon. He said these dangers are due to greed and double standard in personal dealings and dealings amongst different peoples. According to him, these qualities are born of heedlessness to righteousness, the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (SAW).

"All actions must be based on true and sincere intentions. As Ahmadi youth, our morals should be beyond blemish. Our love for our country should be exemplary. That is the commitment we have just made in the pledge we made at the beginning of the convention. This commitment can never be a reality if we are not immersed in the light of righteousness, humility and sincerity which are inextricably linked to the sincere belief in the unity of Allah Almighty" Touray said. Touray explained that Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya was formed on 4th February 2013 by Hadrat Mirza Bashiruddeen Mahmood Ahmad, the second Successor to the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi (AS). "The success of Islam in the early ages owes a lot to the feats of sacrifice and devotion of youth," he noted.

For his part, Musa Sanneh, the regional president of the Ahmadiyya Youth Wing in URR expressed delight of hosting the convention for the second time, while describing the theme of the convention as very important. He said the future of any country lies on its youths and urged the youths to take the convention seriously. "As Khuddam you are in a very good stage of your life and if you make good use of it the future of the country will be bright," Sanneh stated.

Speaking on behalf of the Regional Education director in Basse, Muhammad S Camara, the senior cluster monitor called on youths to obey Allah Almighty. He said organizing such an event is a step in the right direction as it will enable youths to cultivate more knowledge about Islam.

Camara said the right to worship is one of the fundamental rights of a human being, as such they need to know how to worship God.

The senior cluster monitor described the convention as vital to the life of young people saying it will enable them to know more about their religion and adhere to Islamic principles. He urged the Jama'at to pray for the long-lasting peace and stability in the country and extend prayers to those countries in turmoil to have peace.
