Perspective: ISIL - a misnomer

There is unanimity in world opinion that IS poses a grave danger to world peace and it must be dealt with. A call to curb the evil of IS in in order, because it is the most horrid mutation of extremism of this era.

The images taken right before the heartless execution of David Haines are eerie and all too familiar and painful like the two public killings of journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff a few days ago.

ISIL tactics are gruesome and compelling enough to spell out a clear strategy to curb it. President Obama despite his reluctance to ‘put boots on the ground’ has reiterated the need to thwart the brutality of ISIL.

Millions of Muslims worldwide who are witnessing this horror unfold in the name of their religion, are perturbed by the sheer audacity of this evil organizational that has chosen the title of ‘Islamic State’. It seeks and threatens its opponents to either covert to Islam or die. However, Muslims are overwhelmingly echoing a similar sentiment but it is aimed at ISIL. They want ISIL to convert to Islam or either disappears. It does not represent Islam.

‘Islamic State’ is a misnomer. Even non-Muslims are skeptical of this title and understand that this organization is fuelled by political aspirations and through brutal tactics it’s seeking to further its agenda. Employing the name of Islam is an attempt to consolidate and strengthen its stronghold in a region that is already embroiled in sectarianism.

There is unanimity in world opinion that IS poses a grave danger to world peace and it must be dealt with. A call to curb the evil of IS in in order, because it is the most horrid mutation of extremism of this era.

President Obama rightly pointed out that ISIL doesn’t represent Islam and labeled it a terror organization. Steven Sotloff’s mother understands that such brutality has no place in Islam and she had invoked Prophet Muhammad’s example of compassion in her plea to her son’s captors.

David Haines’ brother quoted the following quote from Quran and stressed that ISIL is not about religion:
[41:35] And good and evil are not alike. Repel evil with that which is best.

The whole world including Muslims wants an end to the evil and barbarism of ISIL. Let’s hope that evil is eventually repelled with peace.
